Web based 3D for amazing customer experiences

How can you use web-based 3D technology to offer your customers something extra special?

Every year, as part of our competence development for the tech team at Humblebee we do internal projects, workshops and lectures about topics and emerging technologies we want to know more about. This year one group chose to dig deeper into web based 3D visualisation. This technology is becoming more and more important and with this experiment we wanted to see what tools are available for 3D visualisation in the stack we mainly focus in, Javascript and React.

We created a virtual version of our office in Gothenburg, Sweden from a gnome-perspective. Everything was mapped to correct scale and we know this sort of technology can be used for your orientations, customer experiences, onboarding for events and much more. Plus it's viewable on Chrome or Firefox, creating even more possibilities.

The conclusion of this experiment was that it's possible to visualise quite complex structures with web based 3D. This opens up a lot of possibilities for visualising physical products in a digital world, making experiences more alive and interactive. Complex use cases like configurators for cars can be a lot more intuitive if the user can interact with a 3D version of the car instead of using fixed images.

It's also usable for all kinds of product listings in the e-com industry, making it possible to rotate for example shoes or clothing and zoom in on specific details. As web technology gets more and more advanced we really think we are just at the beginning of how 3D can enrich the experience of the web.
